Taking it to the streets, they asked what are the key pieces in fashion currently. What came up? Vintage knits, animal motif scarves, fur on the coats, leather with faux-fur lining, Heat-Tech clothes, big-brimmed hats, and of course denim.

Children Street Styles in Tokyo
Being affected by adults’ styles, many children, boys, and girls in Tokyo dress up when they’re still very young. Bright colors such as pink, white, red, green, blue, yellow, and pastels are very popular.
They love to mix and match many items together: tops with baby doll skirts or dresses, soft jackets with hoods, colorful tights, boots or Lolita shoes, earmuffs or beanies, cartoon bags, plastic jewelry, bow hairpins, and some even carry a doll with them!
Some girls go with rock-chick style with black clothes, black eye-lined eyes and black nail polish.
Oversize jackets and coats are very popular in Tokyo.
Many girls in Tokyo are big fans of bows
Pink, pink, and pink everywhere! They love to dress up to be dolls with doll dresses, Lolita shoes, bow bags, printed white tights, and lollipop. Their hair is usually curled and dyed in blonde and pink.
Besides, some girls still dress up and make up, but not as much. Their styles are simpler with denims, shorts, t-shirts, lighter make up, and black/brown hair.
In contrast, younger children (who are in kindergarten) in Tokyo are much more simple. They usually wear basic items which are basic pants, polo shirts, t-shirts, simple dresses and skirts, ect.

Woman’s Fashion Trends Fall/Winter 2014
Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014/2015 sets many trends on Women’s Ready-to-Wear. Overall, modern theme with oversize silhouette, minimalism, art prints, and focused details (embellishments, tassels, and trims) are some trends that represent this theme. Here are some trends which I think would be the most popular:
Black and White
Black and White has never been out of trend, especially in these couple seasons. While black is naturally set as a traditional color for Fall/Winter, white has been more and more popular, as we can see white-on-white was well-loved in Spring/Summer 2013. In Fall/Winter 2014, these two colors are combined, together with mineral grey – a tone which is created by mixing black and white, they create the modern theme for this season.
Frayed Texture and Tassels
Fall/Winter 2013 was time for fluffy and textured sweaters when they could be found in almost every brand. Moving toward to Fall/Winter 2014, as being showed in many runway shows, frayed textures in clothes such as jackets, tops, dresses, skirts and tassels in bags for sure will be a hot trend in Fall/Winter 2. However, we don’t have to wait till that fashion season to see this trend due to the fact that there are more and more fashionistas wearing clothes with frayed textures and tassels now.
Soft Shoulders
In last season, cocoon coats and sweatshirts with soft rounded shoulders were very popular, and this trend keeps moving to Fall/Winter 2014/2015.
Houndstooth
Houndstooth was one of the most popular trends in Fall/Winter 2013. In the coming season, many designers bring it back and even extend this texture and make it more powerful by using it not only for coats but also for jackets, dresses, tops, skirts, bags… Black and white are the most common colors which are used to create Houndstooth texture.
These trends are not new, but to me, they’re really interesting. I love modern looks and black and white. Also, beside black and white, pan tone colors in this season is much more with many hues from bright to dark.
In the next couple years, oversize coats and jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts, and tops will still be very popular. I forecast that minimalism will be seen more since it represents the modern style which is more and more popular in fashion.
Women Street Styles in Tokyo
Tokyo, Japan, one of the fashion cities in the world, is famous with a style which is usually called “Harajuku Style.” This style is defined with denim, oversize, layering, colorful, laces, tights and knee socks, and textures. Also, unique hair styles and hair colors are also a part of Harajuku Style.
Many young people in Japan now want to assert themselves by their outlooks. Therefore, they try to dress up the way they want as impressed as possible
People in Tokyo are like “color players.” They mix and match items in different colors as a way to speak out, “I’m colorful and I’m unique!” The most popular colors are pink, black, white, blue, red, and grey.
Oversize sweaters and coats, layering, knee socks, midi and maxi skirts, shift dresses in laces, denim, and leather are the most well-seen in Tokyo, and colorful prints and details on garments, layering necklaces, colorful socks and tights, hats, crepe shoes, ankle boots, hair accessories…making the people who are wearing them look just like fashionistas!
I’ve been looking at the fashion in Japan for couple years, and I see that there are not much differences in street styles in Japan, especially Tokyo. Many people don’t really care what is on trend and what is not; they just put on what they love to wear. However, I can see that now they use fewer layers and colors, and they pay more attention on matching items, so street styles in Tokyo now are really trendier and in few years ago. For the future, I think that they will keep minimizing the number of items in their outfits. Black, white, and grey will be used more beside some bright, hot colors such as pink, yellow, and red. Denims will still be hot, cocoon coats and oversize sweatshirts will be seen more on the street.
I love simple but unique items. I usually mix and match just enough clothes I need, and I don’t often put on more than three colors, so, to my personal opinion, I don’t really like the way those people dress up. It’s just too much colors and layers. However, for those who love layers and colors, street styles in Tokyo could be a great source to get inspiration.
